NMEA 2000 Cable Soldering & Overmolding
NMEA 2000 (N2K) cable is marine CAN bus cable, adopting M12 5-pin Micro-C threaded waterproof connector, IP67 rated. We provide full service including wire soldering, TPU overmolding and testing for marine networking applications.
Pin Assignment (M12 5Pin)
1: Shield (Drain Wire) 2: +12V DC (Red) 3: GND (Black) 4: CAN‑H (White) 5: CAN‑L (Blue)
Cable structure: 2 power wires + twisted CAN differential pair, with aluminum foil & braided shield. Marine grade, UV and salt spray resistant. Overmold material: TPU (hydrolysis-resistant for marine environment).
Production Process
Cable cutting, outer jacket stripping and core wire pre-tinning
Soldering wires to M12 connector pins following N2K pin definition; clean flux residues after soldering
Pre-production electrical test: continuity, insulation resistance and short-circuit check (100% test before molding, no rework after overmolding)
Fix soldered assembly in injection mold, inject TPU for integrated overmolding to form strain relief boot
Cooling, demolding and flash trimming
Final inspection: visual check, electrical test, IP67 air/water leakage test, pull force test. Optional CAN communication test and salt spray test upon request.
Key Technical Notes
Shielding design: single-point grounding to prevent ground loop interference and CAN signal dropout.
Drop cable max length ≤6m; 120Ω terminators must be fitted at both ends of NMEA 2000 backbone.
Available types: single ended, double ended, N2K T-connector harness. Custom length & laser marking supported.
Application
Marine engine monitoring, navigation, sonar, vessel sensor network and other on-board CAN bus systems.
